Stay Organized: 5 Practical Habits for a Cleaner Home
A little effort each day keeps the chaos away.
A clean and organized home doesn’t have to be complicated—it’s all about adopting small, simple habits that make a big difference. Over time, I’ve discovered a few routines that help me keep things functional, stress-free, and easy to manage. From loading the dishwasher properly to keeping clutter in check, here’s what I’ve learned:
1. Dishwasher Overloading
I never overload the dishwasher anymore because when it’s too full, water and detergent can’t circulate properly. Dishes end up dirty, and detergent tablets don’t dissolve completely. I used to blame the tablets and even switched to liquid detergent for a while, but I realized the real issue was overloading. Now, I load it properly, and everything comes out clean while keeping the dishwasher in good condition.
2. Kettle Care
I clean my kettle regularly to prevent hard deposits from building up. My simple trick is to boil lemon slices in the kettle and let them sit—it’s effective and easy to do. I’ve also switched to a kettle without paint, as painted ones tend to peel over time. My current kettle has a temperature-setting feature, so I can heat water to 45°C for my thermal flask or 60°C to keep in the kettle, where it stays warm for a while. This routine has saved me time and made things much more convenient.
3. Kitchen Simplified
I realized my kitchen was cluttered with things I no longer use, like reusable mugs, lidless plastic containers, and untouched recipe books. These items were just taking up valuable space and making it harder to stay organized. By letting go of what I don’t need, I’ve created more room for essentials and made my kitchen feel more functional and enjoyable.
4. Cord Management
Cords used to clutter my floor, and while cleaning, I’d have to lift them up constantly—it was such a hassle! Now, I’ve started wrapping them with velcro straps to keep them off the floor. This simple change has made cleaning so much easier and keeps the space looking neat and organized.
5. Visible Decluttering
I used to store decluttered items in hidden spots, like cupboards, under the bed, or on top of shelves, thinking I might need them someday. But I’d always forget they existed. Now, I’ve placed a declutter box in a visible spot, which reminds me to regularly sort through it and get rid of unnecessary items. This habit has helped me stay on top of clutter and keep my home more organized.
I’m not an expert in home organization, but these small habits have worked well for me. They’ve helped me save time, reduce stress, and enjoy a more organized living space.
